Obituary

Kenneth L. Meier, age 86, formerly of Apple River, IL, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017, at Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque, IA, surrounded by his family. He was born March 19, 1931, in Gratiot Township in Lafayette County, WI, the son of Otto and Ruth (Fiedler) Meier. Kenneth lived in Gratiot Township until his family moved to Monticello Township in Lafayette County, WI. He graduated from Warren High School in 1949. In 1951, he joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. In 1954, he was honorably discharged. Kenneth was united in marriage to Charlotte Parobek on June 4, 1955, at St. Martini's Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. Following his marriage, he began farming with his wife in Apple River, IL. In 1986 they retired to Shullsburg, WI, and in 1993 they moved back to Apple River. Most recently they resided at Sunset Park Place in Dubuque, IA.Kenneth is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two daughters, Kathy (Greg) Lindenberg of Hazel Green, WI, and Linda (Stacy) Maybee of Janesville, WI; four grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Lindenberg and Brianna and Nichole Maybee; one brother, Gerald (Penny) Meier of Albany, IL; sister-in-law, Jean Meier of Madison, WI; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Jack and Rita Fleege of Hazel Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Marvin Meier, and one sister, Doris Quakenbush.Kenneth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Warren, IL, and a past church council member. He loved the outdoors, farming, hunting, and playing cards. Kenneth cherished the time he spent with his family, especially creating memories with his grandchildren. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (209 Clinton Street, Warren, IL). A memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bryan Odeen officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Warren. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington, WI, will be serving the family. I will always remember him as a good friend of my Dads. He was my Dads, Ted Balbach, best man in my parents wedding. My parents played in same card club for years and was a fun time getting to know and play with Linda when we were young! My sympathy to your family!! Joanne Balbach Soper
