Virginia Hodgson

Virginia Elizabeth (Boal) Hodgson, age 92, of Argyle, WI passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Aster Assisted Living in Monroe, WI. She was born to Bert Boal and Ruth (Hinde) Boal on October 23, 1925 at home on the Boal farm in Epworth, IA. Virginia attended elementary school at East Scott School south of Epworth and then attended Epworth High School. After high school, she attended the University of Dubuque where she received her teaching degree. After college she taught 2nd grade at Buck Creek School near Hopkinton, IA. On April 6, 1946 she was united in marriage to Charles Dale Hodgson in Iowa City, IA. Dale and Virginia farmed in Epworth from 1948 until 1972. Virginia kept busy with a big garden, attending activities at the Epworth Methodist Church, and raising her children. In January 1973, Virginia and Dale moved to a dairy farm in rural Blanchardville, WI. She kept busy volunteering at Blanchardville United Methodist Church where she was a member, helping with grandkids, and cleaning houses.In 1986 they moved to a house in Argyle, WI. Virginia worked at the jewelry store and library part-time. She enjoyed visits from friends, neighbors, and relatives and loved attending activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had a treat or cookies to share with them when she attended their concerts and sporting events. Virginia was faithful in sending birthday and anniversary cards as well as cards to those who were ill. In December of 2016, Virginia moved to Aster Assisted Living Center in Monroe where she has resided since. She looked forward to many visits and cards from family and friends. Virginia is survived by her children: Carol (Mark) Hartbecke of Wheatland, IA, Kenneth (Monica) Hodgson of Argyle, Robert (Bev) Hodgson of Dyersville, IA, David (Pam) Hodgson of Plymouth, WI, and Cinda (Don) Hittesdorf of Hollandale, WI. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren who all loved her dearly. She is further survived by a sister-in-law: Ruth Hodgson of Dubuque, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dale on August 6, 2003; one infant great-granddaughter: Ava Hodgson; one daughter-in law: Marge Zimmer; one brother: Kenneth Boal; three brothers-in-law: George Oliver Hodgson, Frederick Gerber, and Harold Koehn; and three sisters-in-law: Doris Boal, Doris (Hodgson) Gerber, and Arlene (Koehn) Hoff. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Blanchardville United Methodist Church (101 N. Main Street, Blanchardville) with Rev. Christopher Leistra officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church. Burial will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Dubuque Memorial Gardens in Dubuque, IA. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family.
