Dennis R. Unbehaun, age 63 of Darlington, WI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, WI. He was born February 22, 1954 in Reedsburg, WI the son of Frances and Ella (Fry) Unbehaun. Dennis attended grade school in Cassville, WI and later went on to graduate from Cuba City High School in 1972. Following his graduation from high school, Dennis joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at McCord Air Force Base at Tacoma, WA he was united in marriage to Ruth A. Lowery on November 5, 1977 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Hazel Green, WI. After retiring from the Air Force, Dennis returned to Cuba City, finally settling in Darlington where he has resided since. Dennis is survived by his wife Ruth at home; one daughter: Nicole (Shawn) Henning of Janesville WI three brothers: Leroy (Linda) Unbehaun of Lime Ridge, WI, Robert (Debbie) Unbehaun and Steven (Chris) Unbehaun both of Shullsburg, WI; five sisters: Jean Horkan of Lime Ridge, Carol (Don) Brown of Lanark, IL, Joan (Richard) Peck of Pickerington, OH, Sharon (Del) Tranel and Mary (Frank) Blahnik both of Cuba City, WI; three sisters-in-law: Mary Jo Craugh and Kim Lowery both of Platteville, WI and Linda Brandt of Prairie du Chien, WI; two loyal dogs and best friends: Angel and Allie; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Jerry Unbehaun; and a beloved dog: Boo. Dennis served in the United States Air Force for 16 years. He loved to work on computers, and had many talents when it came to wood working. You could find him tending to his lawn, garden, and flower beds during the warmer months. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing. Dennis will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. Private family services will be held at a later date. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dennis' name.

Condolences from my mom and I. When I told her about Dennis's passing, she went on a very long ramble about all the time that she spent with him when they were oh, so much younger. I will always treasure the memories of him stopping in at great-grandma's while grandma and I were visiting. You are not alone during this trying time. You are well loved.

My father was one of the goofiest and most loving men I've ever met in my life. He was smart, talented, witty, weird, loving, and so strong. He could fix almost any computer problem thrown at him. His hard working hands made beautiful works of art; painting, wood working, computer graphics. He always had a book he was reading and more games to play on the computer than he ever had time for. His capacity for giving and receiving love was unmatched. He gave love deeply and unconditionally and had a tender heart and an artist's soul. He taught me more than I could ever hope to express. He loved my mother completely and even though I was a pain in the butt he gave me more love than I ever felt I deserved. He extended this love to my husband (who he called son), and my friends and their children. He brought so much joy and support to the world and made it a better place. As we go on I will try to do a little better every day. I will try to make something even more of myself to make him and Mom even more proud of me. Life isn't fair, and you were taken away to soon. I'll love you forever and always, to the moon and back. And I will do my best to try to take care of Mommy. We miss you so much Daddy.

Dennis was a member of The American Legion, Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli Post 214 in Darlington. Dennis was signed up by past Post Commander Dennis Murphy and as membership Chairman and now Post Commander, I had met with Dennis a few times to talk. I didn't know him well but enjoyed talking to him when I had the opportunity. Very knowledgeable, very caring man. The Post received a note from Dennis about a month ago Thanking us for our support. We will miss you Dennis.
