Charles Symons

Charles F. "Charlie" Symons, Jr age 89 of Shullsburg, WI passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Lafayette Manor, in Darlington. He was born December 31, 1928 in Shullsburg, WI the son of Charles R. and Emma M. (Backhop) Symons, Sr. Charlie graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Scott on December 8, 1951. Charlie was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1952 where he was trained as a Radar Technician. He was honorably discharged in 1960. Charlie lived in Shullsburg all of his life where he farmed on his dairy farm and worked at John Deere in Dubuque, IA. Charlie retired in 1988. Charlie is survived by his three children: Bruce (Jody) Symons of Dickeyville, WI, Cindy (Merle Monahan) Symons of Brodhead, WI, and Todd Symons of Lena, IL; four grandchildren: Joshua (Erica) Symons, Tanya (Brian) Bigge, and Jason Symons, Travis Symons; six great-grandchildren; one brother: Dale (Ann) Symons of Darlington; special friends: Kelly Cook of Warren, IL and Jessie (Abbie) Rillie of Lena, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Kathleen; and one brother: Russell Symons.Charles was a member of McCann-Richards American Legion Post 105.Charlie loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. In his younger years Charlie was quite an athlete and even tried out for the Philadelphia Phillies. In his later years he enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi River and at Yellowstone Lake.A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg (235 N. Judgement, Shullsburg) with Rev. Stanton Bockwoldt of Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg officiating. Burial will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg, with Military Graveside Rites to be accorded by McCann-Richards American Legion Post# 105 of Shullsburg. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg from 11 A.M. until time of service.
