Elaine White

Elaine E. "Laine" (Smithe) White, age 90 of Shullsburg, WI passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, IA. She was born February 27, 1928 in Benton, WI the daughter of Sherman Smithe and Mildred (Stephens) Cruse. She attended Benton High School. Laine was united in marriage to Homer G. White on May 10, 1947 at Benton Methodist Church in Benton, WI. She was born and raised in Benton. Following her marriage to Homer they continued to live in Benton for 15 years until moving to Tennessee where they lived for 5 years. In 1968, they moved to Shullsburg where they ran White's Café for a few years. Elaine worked at Advanced Transformers as a production worker until her retirement. Elaine is survived by her children: David (Carol) White of Strawberry Plains, TN, Debby (Mike) Pederson of Hazel Green, WI, and Holly White of Shullsburg; two grandchildren: Tammie (Matt) Fick of Gratiot, WI and Heidi (Jody) Corley of Rochester, MN; twin great-granddaughters: Lilly and Leah Fick; and a special grand-dog: Sadie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Homer in 1997; two grandsons: Todd Corley and Michael Corley; and five brothers: Boliver Cruse, Burl Cruse, Clyde Cruse, Jerry Cruse, and Jack Smithe. Elaine loved to cook pies, roast beef, potato salad, and anything Homer "Smead" brought home from hunting. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren creating memories they will all remember forever. She liked to travel anywhere someone would take her and will be remembered for her positive outlook on life. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Centenary United Methodist Church (226 W. Church Street, Shullsburg) with Rev. Stanton Bockwoldt officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, September 17, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church.
