Josephine Mae "Jo" Metcalf, age 89 passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Vitas Ruth Home in West Allis, WI. She was born March 19, 1929 in Watertown, WI the daughter of Henry William and Viola (Dugan) Wilde. Jo was united in marriage to Charles Daniel Metcalf, who was from Shullsburg, WI, on March 31, 1951 in Watertown. Following her marriage, Jo and Charles lived in Madison, WI, Waukesha, WI, and in 1980 in Monroe. Following the death of her husband Charles, she moved to the Milwaukee area.Jo is survived by her children: Mary (Bill) Berger, Grace (Ian) Cheah, Chuck (Sharon) Metcalf, Tom (Ona) Metcalf and Karen (Ken) Schmidling; eleven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Charles; one brother: Henry Wilde; and one sister: Margaret Hafemann.Jo was a member of the St. Victor's Catholic Church in Monroe, of which she was involved in helping with the landscaping, a member of the CCW, and distributed communion to nursing home residents. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 12:00 P.M. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church (344 N. Judgement St, Shullsburg) with Rev. Sudhakar Devarapu officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home of Shullsburg is assisting the family. I met Jo when I was working for Bruni Miller Company in Monroe. She and I decorated her home together when she and Charlie moved to the south end of town, and also the duplex when she downsized. I will always remember her for her joyful spirit, warm hospitality, and bold honesty. She is one who was never a client, but always a friend. I did not know where she went after she left Monroe, but am glad to know she now rests peacefully. My sincere sympathies. Jane Gaulrapp

All our love to all of you. Thanks for the memories of the fun we had. Your mom was a best friend, a go-to- friend. Your dad and Don shared so much. He installed our air conditioner. I hope you get this note. Thank you Mary and Grace for giving me a break on Saturday mornings, babysitting our kids. Your mom played a very important role in my life. By the way, we still live at 484 Presidential and a new generation of young families with kids occupy the houses up and down the street. You are always welcome. I met Jo thru JoAnne's Dress Shop. We had so much fun chatting when she came in. Talked about life and the world as it was. She always had that great smile and wit about her. I have missed our visits the past few years. So sorry to hear of Jo's passing. My deepest sympathies to you and your family. She will be missed by all that knew her.
