Janis Schlappi

Janis M. Schlappi, age 83 of rural Darlington, WI passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born October 5, 1935 in Darlington the daughter of Floyd and Laura (Venden) Ward. Janis lived in Darlington her entire life and graduated from Darlington High School. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Cletus Schlappi on January 25, 1956 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington. Janis owned, operated, and kept books for Schlappi Shooting Supply for many years.Janis is survived by her two sons: Brad (Sharon Karney) Schlappi of rural Gratiot, WI and Mark Schlappi of Darlington; and one grandson who she loved dearly: Ben Schlappi. Janis was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Cletus in 2014.Janis was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington and Muscoda Gun Club. She had a passion for shooting trap and loved tending to her farm. Janis enjoyed family vacations around the state of Wisconsin and Ohio to shoot trap. She always enjoyed spending time with children and cherished her time as the Librarian. Janis loved to read, taking care of her family, and playing scrabble with her good friend Bonnie Wilkinson. She had two German Shepherds that were her best friends, King and Sam. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.A funeral service will be held Monday, May 20, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) with Rev. Barbara Brakey of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. and on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington.
