Robert Paynter

Robert C. "Bucky" Paynter, age 95 of rural Mineral Point, WI passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at his home in rural Mineral Point. He was born December 26, 1923 on the Merriam Family Homestead in Darlington, WI, the son of Byron and Esther (Merriam) Paynter. Robert was united in marriage to Glenda Tagatz on September 12, 1952 at Darlington United Methodist Church in Darlington. He worked in construction building houses and apartments in Madison, WI and spent some of his life as a beef farmer. Robert is survived by his children: Nancy (Ron) Olsen of Oregon, WI, Craig Paynter of Renton, WA, and Thomas (Tammy) Paynter of rural Mineral Point; six grandchildren: Alissa (Nate) Brooks, Tim Olsen, Ryan (Candis) Paynter, Cory (Samantha VanScoy) Funk, Dylan (Rachael Meyer) Paynter and Caelyn Paynter; ten great-grandchildren; one sister: Marion Howard of Darlington; and a son-in-law: Andy Cleaves. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Glenda on January 2, 2004; a daughter: Sharon Paynter-Cleaves in 2017; one sister: Amy Page; and two brothers-in-law: Harvey Page and Stanley Howard.Robert served in the United States Army as an Army Engineer Paratrooper with the 17th Airborne Division, 139th Engineer Battalion from March 1943 until being honorably discharged in December 1945. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and the time they spent together creating memories that they will all remember forever. Robert will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. A Celebration of Robert's life will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Mineral Point American Legion Post #170 (3883 9th St, Mineral Point WI 53565) where military rites will be accorded by Mineral Point American Legion Post #170 at 3:30 P.M.
