Edward Smith

Edward T. Smith, age 71 of Portage, WI formerly of Darlington, WI passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019 at his home in Portage. He was born September 20, 1948 in Dodgeville, WI the son of Harold and Mary (Prine) Smith. Ed grew up in Darlington where he attended Darlington High School. In 1967, Ed joined the United States Army and was stationed in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on August 21, 1969 and spent 3 years in the National Guard. Ed was very proud to have served his country. He returned to Southwest Wisconsin and eventually moved to Portage where he has resided since. Ed is survived by his children: Steven Smith of Albany, WI, Gary Smith of Peosta, IA, Marcia (Cory) Dahmen of Monroe, WI, Eddie (Kim Hopkins) Smith of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Seth Endres of Madison, WI, Samantha and Katelynn Smith and Shawn Wilkins all of Portage; and two grandchildren Keegan and Kennedy Dahmen. He is further survived by the mothers of his children: Deborah McQuinn of Ft. Atkinson and Nichole Smith of Portage, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Jimmy and Conrad Smith; and Seth's mother: Sharon Endres.Ed was a man of faith and enjoyed reading religious and military novels. He was also a huge Green Bay Packers and Elvis Presley fan, and had a passion for researching his family genealogy. Ed will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 25, 2019 at 12:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) with Rev. Nick McElrath of First Baptist church in Darlington officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. A visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
