Ronald Black

Ronald D. "Ron" Black, age 89 of Darlington, WI passed away Friday, December 27, 2019 at his home in Darlington. He was born April 15, 1930 in Red Oak, IA the son of Dotson and Ella (Winn) Black. Ron grew up in Red Oak, moving to Waddams Grove, IL and later to Darlington. Ron attended high school in Lena, IL and later graduated from Darlington High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Patricia McCarville on June 24, 1950 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Calamine, WI. Ron worked with his father Dotson at Meadowbrook Hatchery on Madison Street until moving to the Center Hill location. They began Dotson Black & Son construction, building over 100 homes in the area. Ron founded Black's Floor Covering, currently owned by his son Alan. Ron continued to work at the store until the age of 87 when he retired. He and his wife Pat also owned the Towne Motel in Darlington for 22 years. Ron is survived by his wife Patricia at home; six children: Nancy Donahoe, Kerry (Kathleen "Kate") Black, Alan (Dianne) Black, Richard (Jeanne) Black all of Darlington, Julianne (Michael) Wiegel of Poplar Grove, IL, and Steven (Lisa) Black of Darlington; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by four sisters: Jean (Donald) Parquet of McMinnville, OR, JoAnne (James) Crotty of South Wayne, WI, Shirley McConnell and Mary Jane McDonald both of Darlington; and three sisters-in-law: Mary Buschor and Helen Brunkow McCarville of Darlington and Nina McCarville of Tacoma, WA. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Betty (Albert) Binau; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Bill McConnell, Jerry McDonald, Kenneth (Geraldine) McCarville, Jerry McCarville, Jim (Ardeth) McCarville, Audrey (John) Fitzsimons, Vic Oeschlin, Richard Buschor, Judy (Don) Dalton. Ron was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a former member of its Church Council. He was also a proud former member of Darlington Fire Department, a former Lafayette County Board Supervisor, and a committee chairman of Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, Lafayette Manor, the Hodan Center and Law Enforcement. Ron continued to stay active in as many community activities as he could. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren creating memories they will all cherish forever. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church a branch of Our Lady of Fatima Parish (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) with Rev. Joji Reddy officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, December 30, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church.
