DARLINGTON, WI - Mary Alice Hartman, age 99, passed away March 26, 2020 at the Lafayette Manor in Darlington. Mary Alice was born July 27, 1920 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Albert and Mary Irene (Sullivan) Noonan. She grew up in Chicago, but her heart was always at the family farm at Bernard, IA. She graduated from Visitation High School in Chicago, and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Mary Crest College in Davenport, IA. Mary Alice taught high school in Chicago and later at Vocational Tech Schools in Watertown, WI and Janesville, WI. In 1950, she became the Clark County Home Economist agent in Neillsville, WI, where she met her husband Charles Hartman. Mary Alice and Charlie were united in marriage on November 15, 1952 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Garryowen, IA. After their wedding they moved to Darlington, where she has resided since. They shared over 58 years together, before Charlie preceded her in death on January 13, 2011. Mary Alice and Charlie were blessed with four children: John (Shelley Rotondo) Hartman of Bend, OR; Thomas (Patricia) Hartman of Hartford, WI; William (Maureen) Hartman of Wilsonville, OR; and Mary Anne (Greg) Pickett of Darlington; 7 grandchildren; many nieces and "favorite" nephews; and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Charlie and Joe Hartman; and her brother, Raymond Noonan.Mary Alice enjoyed a close relationship with her parents, which she instilled in her own family. She cherished the time she spent with family and friends, creating memories that will last forever. Mary Alice was a devout Catholic, and a dedicated member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She loved having coffee and playing cards with her friends. In retirement Mary Alice and Charlie enjoyed spending time at their farm in Iowa that was homesteaded by her great-grandfather in the 1800's. Mary Alice's devilish Irish eyes, and wonderful sense of humor will be fondly remembered in the hearts of all whose lives she touched.Due to the Coronavirus a Memorial Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a Celebration of Life, and burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Bernard, IA will be held at a date to be determined.The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Sending love and sympathy to all of "Alice"s family. We spent time once a week at the shop for years and Always had the best talks and lots of laughs. She was very proud of her family and only wanted the best for you all. She was a gift to everyone that was lucky toknow her. I will miss her but will smile when I think of her. Rest easy Mary Alice. Take comfort she is with Charlie again.

I’ve known Alice and Charlie my whole life, as they Ived in the same neighborhood and their son, Willie, is a classmate. They always welcomed you in their home and I shared many meals and many visits with Alice and Charlie. She loved a good joke and was an excellent cook. She raised her family with love and respect. I will miss this sweet Irish lass.
