Kathy Lewis passed away unexpectedly, of natural causes, at her home in Hazel Green on April 3, 2020. She was born December 28, 1951 to Cletus and Josephine Herbst. Kathy was a graduate of Shullsburg High School. In 1972 she married Dennis J. Lewis. Kathy and Dennis had two children together, James and Katie. After their divorce many years ago, they remained friends until Dennis's death in 2016.Kathy worked for many years at various hotels and restaurants in the Galena Illinois area. She recently retired from the Log Cabin Steakhouse.She loved animals, gardening and spending time with her children, grandchildren and her family. She is survived by: her son Jim (Heidi) Lewis and their children, Sylvia and Wyatt of Suamico Wisconsin; her daughter, Katie (Matt) Cooperstein and their children, Sunny and Lotus of Redondo Beach California. Her brothers Rick (Peggy) Herbst, Gary Herbst, Ron (Vicki) Herbst and Donnie Herbst, her sisters Jean (Allen) King, Joan Brandt, and Dr. Theresa (Greg) Brennan, a special godson Zach Brennan and her beloved dog Logan. She is further survived by her mother-in-law, Alverna Lewis, sisters-in-law Diane (Jeff) Cole, Lea Ann (Dave) Baker, Laurie (Ben) Goeman and Donna (Randy) Wisdom, two aunts Brigid Ubersox and Margret McKee and many cousins and nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and many aunts and uncles.A memorial service will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for Kathy at: Benton State BankC/O James E. Kathy. You will be missed. You were a part of our family life for years. I always said if I owned a business I would put you at the front counter because you were so good in helping people. We worked side by side for years and we always had a good relationship. We didn’t always agree but that never got in the way of our friendship.
