John Curran

John R. Curran, age 79 of Lena, IL formerly of Shullsburg, WI passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at his home in Lena. He was born March 5, 1941 in Shullsburg the son of Clement and Alberta (Hollander) Curran. John was born and raised in Shullsburg. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Patricia A. Monahan on July 11, 1964. Following their marriage, John was drafted into the United States Army. After serving in the Vietnam War, John and Pat moved to Freeport, IL and started their family. In 1984 the family moved to Lena, IL where their children grew up and John lived the rest of his life.John is survived by his wife Pat at home; his children: Chris (Jerry Pool) Curran of Freeport, Jody (Mark Fordham) Katzenberger of Lena, Jolene (Dennis Pieper) of Lena, James (Lisa) Curran of Warren, IL, Jacquelyn (Terry Daschner) Curran of Lena, Julie (Todd Bessert) Curran of Lena, and Jaysen (Kristina Knesting) Curran of Dekalb, IL; his grandchildren: Jack, Megin, John, and Jordin Katzenberger, Brandyn Curran, Jared (Samantha) Curran, Emily Pontnack, Jakeb Daschner, Abby (Bryant) Lawson, Ashleigh Wilson, Adriana Curran, Allie Curran, Lucas Baney, Jayden Hornung, Quinton Preston; his great-grandchildren: Ayden, Lenny, and Luci; his brothers: Gary (Dorothy) Curran of Shullsburg, WI, David (Kelly) Curran of South Beloit, WI, Kenneth (Bonnie) Curran of Shullsburg, Danny (Mary) Curran of Freeport, Patrick Curran of Freeport, and Larry (Marge) Curran of Platteville, WI; and his sisters: Mary Beth (Bob) Giesman of Peoria, IL, Joanne (George) Hill, Cathy Curran, Janice (Marty Birkett) Lyne , Joyce (Ronnie) Hill, Doris (Mike) Teutschmann all of Shullsburg, Carol (Dick) Redfearn of Benton, WI, Denise Curran of Platteville, and Deborah (Mike) Hocking of Cuba City; Two family friends; Wayne Kitzberger and James Reichling and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: R. Gene Curran; one brother-in-law: Royce Lyne; one niece: Becky Curran; and one nephew: Brain Hill. John was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lena, IL. He enjoyed gardening and working on his lawn. John was an avid coin collector and liked to go to car and air shows and tractor pulls. He cherished the time he spent with his family creating memories they will all remember forever. John will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church (344 N. Judgement Street, Shullsburg) with Rev. Sudhakar Devarapu officiating. A private visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg is serving the family.
