Obituary

Roger Lee Gorgas, born February 14, 1938, at Tomahawk Hospital, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026. A lifelong resident of Wisconsin, Roger grew up in Walworth and attended North Walworth Country School, Walworth High School, and Darien High School.

Following his graduation from High School Roger began working at General Motors in Janesville. In 1958 he was drafted into the United States Army. He spent 18 months in Okinawa Japan and was honorably discharged in 1961 in where he held the rank of Specialist 4. Following his honorable military service, he continued a career in the automotive industry, working for General Motors where he was a loyal employee until his retirement in 1996. His diligent work and steadfast commitment were hallmarks of his professional life.

A devoted family man and community member, Roger was the son of Warren Earl Gorgas Sr. and Grace Ellis (Bovemeyer) Gorgas. He was preceded in death by his siblings Warren Gorgas Jr., Willard Gorgas, Vergil Gorgas, Evelyn Gorgas, and Shirley Ann Thompson and his cherished dogs Muffy, Jazzy and Sasha. At the time of his passing, Roger was a widower, having shared many joyful years with his wife, Sally. Though he had no children, he cherished the companionship and adventures he shared with Sally, especially their travels together including visiting their condo in Branson MO and camping throughout the country in their 5th Wheel. They cherished the time they spent with their nieces, nephews and special cousins: Linda (Walker) Calvert, Cindy (Tony Koss), Eric (Lisa) Kuhls.

Among his cherished pastimes, Roger found great pleasure in woodworking, crafting fine pieces with skill and care. He was also an active member of his community, participating in the Darlington American Legion and the Odd Fellows lodges in Darlington and Janesville, Wisconsin, where he made many lifelong friends. Roger was a man of many stories and was always willing to share them with anyone who would listen.
