Elgibility

Military funeral honors are provided at no cost as required by law for eligible veterans. Eligibility is confirmed with the veteran's DD-214 or discharge papers. The following are considered eligible:

  • Former military members discharged from the Selected

  • Reserve due to a service-related disability.

  • Former military members with honorable discharge from active duty.

  • Former military members who completed one term of enlistment in the Selected Reserve with honorable discharge.

Traditional honors

During a veteran's service, traditional honors include folding and presenting the American flag to the next of kin, playing Taps, and a minimum two-member honor guard from the Armed Forces. The presenting member must represent the branch in which the veteran served.

Additional honors may include draping the U.S. flag over the casket, a three-volley rifle salute symbolizing duty, honor, and country, and a final salute at the gravesite.
