Emmett C. Schwartz, age 89 of Darlington, WI passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Shullsburg Home in Shullsburg, WI. He was born December 10, 1932 in Calamine, WI the son of George and Hazel (Yearous) Schwartz. Emmett grew up in Darlington where he attended school and worked on a number of farms. Emmett enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 and proudly served until being honorably discharged in 1954. When he returned from the service he worked on several more farms until going to work at Kelly Springfield Tire Company in 1966 and worked until retiring in 1995. Emmett was married to Doris Douglas in 1955 and later married Judy Rabe in 1989. Following his retirement, he worked for the S.U.N. Program and delivered meals on wheels all over Lafayette County for 13 years where he formed many new friendships that he cherished. Emmett is survived by his children: Wally Schwartz of Darlington, Roger (Roxanne) Schwartz of Shullsburg, David Schwartz of Kenosha, WI, Marcia (David) Gratz of Oregon, WI, Sherry (Pat Neumaier) Schwartz of Monroe, WI, and Julie (Shawn) Miller of Juda, WI; his step-children: Dave (Rena) Stluka of California, Laurie (Greg) Stolen of Waunakee, WI and Anne Stluka of Madison, WI; his grandchildren: Rachel (Nick) Reichling, Reid Schwartz, Logan (Jordan) Schwartz, Trenton Schwartz, Dan (Kerbee) Gratz, Heather (Andy) Bellamy, Jenna Gratz, John Jones, Kiara, Kerstin, and Kylie Miller; step-grandchildren: Lindsey (Brody) Norman, Cameron Stluka, Maggan (Jacob) Collier, Michael (Sydney) Stluka, Grace, Alex and Kayla Stolen; his great-grandchildren: Owen Reichling with a baby brother due in March; Theodore, Gavin, and Meredith Schwartz, Konner Grace Gratz, Calvin Stluka, and Vincent Collier; one special friend: Ann (Scott) Nitsche. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Judy Schwartz; sisters and brothers-in-law: Agnes (Bill) Bennett and Audrey (Marvin) Halverson; and one brother: Wallace Schwartz. Emmett was a founding member of Yellowstone Flint & Cap Club and was also a member of Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington and United Steel Workers Union. Emmett loved to spend time outside hunting and fishing and attending the Rendezvous and Buckskin outings. He was also a very talented at woodworking - especially the scroll saw. Emmett cherished his family - especially his grandchildren and the memories they created together. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) with Fr. Peter Lee of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Shullsburg officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. For those who prefer, a memorial fund has been established in Emmett's name. The family would like to thank Sienna Crest Assisted Living, the Shullsburg Home, and Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care of Emmett.

My fond memories of Uncle Emmett include time spent when he and Wally were home on leave during the early '50s. They were so tall and distinguished in their uniforms. Later, the family reunions were occasions of great interest, meeting family and remembering other times. Caroline (Bennett) Hodge
