Warren G. Sayther of Appleton, WI
Warren G. Sayther, age 82 of Appleton, WI passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Oak Ridge Gardens Nursing Center in Menasha, WI.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August, 7, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Park Place (GPS Users: 130 West Cornelia Street) in Darlington, WI with Rev. Carol Johnson of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday, August 7, 2010, from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Violet Gatlin of Platteville, WI formerly of Darlington, WI
Violet E. Gatlin, age 90 of Platteville, WI, formerly of Darlington, WI, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at UW Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born July 22, 1919 in Wiota, WI, the daughter of Irvin and Agnes (Horne) Olson. Violet attended Holly School in rural Wiota. She was united in marriage to Tommie Gatlin on April 2, 1941 in Valparaiso, IN. Violet lived in Lompoc, CA from 1951 until 1978, when they moved to Darlington. She lived in Darlington until 2002, when she moved to Platteville to be closer to her daughter.

Violet is survived by one daughter: Kathleen Tribble of Platteville, WI; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother: Andrew (Gloria) Olson of McFarland, WI, and four nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Tommie on March 11, 2002; and two sisters: Marie Olson and Lilly Swanson.

Violet was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Platteville. She truly enjoyed sharing her faith with others. Violet loved animals, especially cats and frogs. She enjoyed roller skating up to the age of 80. Violet will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, July 22, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Park Place (GPS users-130 West Cornelia Street) in Darlington with speaker Robert Haesler of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Fritz Hirsbrunner of Darlington, WI
Fritz Hirsbrunner age 87 of Darlington, WI, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. Fritz was born to Fred and Elsie (Wiess) Hirsbrunner on April 10, 1923. He was a graduate of Darlington High School. Fritz was united in marriage to Rosalie F. Niffenegger on December 10, 1949 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington. He lived and farmed on the Hirsbrunner family farm in Willow Springs Township in Lafayette County most of his life until retiring in the early 1990’s. Fritz also worked for Land’s End as a gift wrapper.

Fritz is survived by his wife, Rosalie at home; two children: Karl F. (Jane) Hirsbrunner of Richland Center, WI, and Debra (Buzz) Sorge of Osseo, WI; four grandchildren: Kori Merrill, Stephanie Hirsbrunner, Lindsay Sorge, and Trevor Sorge; two great-grandchildren: Maegan and Reid Merrill; two brothers: Bob (Arlene) Hirsbrunner of Wiota, WI, and Ed Hirsbrunner of Darlington; four sisters: Wanda Jacobsen of Darlington, Rosemary Edwards of Dodgeville, WI, Marion (Harland) Swenson of rural Hollandale, WI, and Shirley (Charles) Von Glahn of Belmont, WI; a brother-in-law: Fred Gierens of Darlington; a sister-in-law: Leta Hirsbrunner of Darlington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Paul, and Arthur Hirsbrunner; and three sisters: Ruth Ruf, Lois Gierens, and Viola Steger.

Fritz was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington, and past member of its church council and choir. He also was a past member of Darlington Odd Fellows. Fritz enjoyed working on the farm, fishing, hunting, playing cards, dancing, bowling, and being with his friends and family. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel United Church of Christ (339 East Louisa Street, Darlington 53530) with Rev. Kathleen Rinear officiating. Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington, WI. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Park Place-GPS users: 130 West Cornelia St.- Darlington, WI 53530), and from 10:00 until time of services at the church on Wednesday. Delbert H. Bradt of Darlington, WI
Delbert H. Bradt, age 89 of Darlington, WI, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at his home. He was born September 21, 1920 in Shullsburg, WI, the son of Harvey and Mary Juanita (Hancock) Bradt. Delbert graduated from Scales Mound High School in 1938. He was united in marriage to Stella Fiedler on February 5, 1942 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Galena, IL. Delbert and Stella farmed on the Colin’s farm in Guilford Township near Galena from 1942 until 1949. They then moved to Monticello Township in Lafayette County, where they lived and farmed from 1949 until 1959. In 1959, they moved to Fayette Township in Lafayette County, where they farmed until retiring from farming in 1970. Delbert was a Park Ranger for the Department of Natural Resources from 1966 until retiring in 1985.

Delbert is survived by four children: Shirley Everson of Madison, WI, Karen (Richard) March of rural Shullsburg, Ron (JoAnn) Bradt of Waunakee, WI, and Donna (David) Hagen of Darlington; eleven grandchildren: Jeffery (Nancy) Everson, Jacqueline (Matthew) Oliver, Suzanne Everson, Julie (Eugene) Gutzmer, John (Jennifer) March, Janet (Darren) Schroeder, Janelle (Bradley) Schumacher, Jennifer (John) McCune, Kevin (Meghan) Bradt, Amy (Tim) Knutson, and Jeremy (Michelle) Hagen; 25 great-grandchildren with the 26th due in July; and two sisters: Lois Leitzinger of Shullsburg and Gladys (George) Buck of Rockford, IL. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Sandy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Stella on May 11, 2010; one great-grandson, Joseph Gutzmer; and two brothers, Harold and Wilford Bradt.

Delbert was a member of Fayette United Methodist Church, Fayette Sportsman Club, and Amicitia Lodge #25 Free and Accepted Masons of Shullsburg. He served as chairman of the Fayette Township for many years. Delbert won many awards for his farming and conservation practices throughout the years. He enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Brewers, playing horseshoes, bowling, raising pumpkins, fishing, hunting, traveling, family get togethers, and spending time with his dogs.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, July 18, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church, 15691 County Road K in Darlington with Rev. Larry Hakes of Darlington United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg. A visitation will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington with Masonic services at 8:00 P.M. Tom E. "Sluggo" Blaser of Darlington, WI
Tom E. “Sluggo” Blaser, age 58 of Darlington, WI passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. He was born at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington on April 21, 1952, the son of Harry and Zola (Ray) Blaser. Tom graduated from Darlington High School. He lived in Darlington all of his life. He worked as a foreman for MJ Electric, Inc. based out of Iron Mountain, MI. Tom was co-owner of Fayette Saloon.

Tom is survived by his mother: Zola Blaser of Darlington; one brother: Ron (Joan) Blaser of Darlington; one sister-in-law: Janayne (Leo) Spellman of Darlington; five nieces and nephews: Staci Brecklin of Darlington, Adam Blaser of Minneapolis, MN, Josh (fiancée Katie Kammerud) Blaser of Darlington, Savannah Blaser (fiancée Brian Maurer, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan) of Darlington, and Tabitha Blaser of Darlington; one great-nephew: Landon Blaser and one great-niece: Maddy Corley both of Darlington . He was preceded in death by his father: Harry Blaser on July 12, 1995; one brother: James Blaser on November 13, 1982; and two nieces: Dulcey Blaser on November 3, 1996 and Jami Blaser on March 31, 1991.

Tom was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local 953. He held a pilot’s license for many years. He was president of The International Yacht Club. He enjoyed boating and camping on the Mississippi River. Tom was an avid NASCAR fan and attended many races in Daytona, FL. He was a HUGE Willie Nelson fan and attended many of his concerts. He looked forward to holding services every Sunday at Chapel Hill. He spent a lot of time mowing grass on Blaser’s Acres with his great-nephew, Landon. Tom was always there to lend a helping hand to all his friends and family. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.

Mary M. Amenda of Calamine, WI
Mary M. Amenda, age 87 of Calamine, WI passed away on Friday, July 02, 2010 at the Lafayette Manor, Darlington, WI. Mary was born on September 22, 1922 to William and Frances M. (Gray) Amenda in Calamine, WI. She lived in Calamine most of her life. Mary worked at Burgess Battery in Mineral Point for many years.

Mary is survived by her nieces: Helen “Ginny” Schwartz of Verona, WI, and Connie Weaver of Eldridge, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters: Leila White, June 27, 1992, Irene Frontz, August 1, 1975, Violet Amenda, November 6, 1992, Rose Amenda, November 6, 1994, and Beatrice Peterson, March 18, 1995; two nephews: Gene Frontz and Gary White; and a niece: Geri Jacobsen.

Mary loved to make scrapbooks of movie stars and enjoyed listening to music. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at Belmont Cemetery, Belmont, WI, with Rev. Nate Whiteside of First Baptist Church, Darlington, WI, officiating. Patricia M. Hirsbrunner of Texas formerly of Wisconsin
Patricia Mary (Duffee) Hirsbrunner, age 88 of Corpus Christi, TX, formerly of Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, in New Braunfels, TX. She was born December 1, 1921 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI, the daughter of Floyd W. and Isabelle (Walsh) Duffee. She attended Randall Elementary School and West High School in Madison. After graduating from West High School in 1939, Pat attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received a Bachelor’s degree on May 27, 1944 majoring in Home Economics. After graduation she was employed as a case worker for the Red Cross in Chicago, IL. While at University of Wisconsin-Madison, Pat met Paul Hirsbrunner from Darlington and they were united in marriage on February 17, 1945 at St. Raphael’s Cathedral in Madison. During World War II Pat and Paul lived in Cape May, NJ where Paul was stationed at the Marine base before being sent to the South Pacific. They later lived in Madison, Platteville, Belleville and Lancaster, WI. In 1965, Pat received a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She was later employed by the Grant County Dept. of Human Services as a social worker. In 1972, Pat and Paul moved out of state to Arizona hoping to escape the frigid Wisconsin winters. Eventually they settled in Corpus Christi, TX, where Paul was employed by the state of Texas. While in Corpus Christi, she operated a reservation service for area bed and breakfasts. This people- to -people contact was her true calling and joy. She met many interesting people through this venue over the years.

Pat is survived by two daughters: Judy Day of Oregon, WI and Cindy (Albert) Wood of Wimberley, TX; five grandchildren: John Ehrmann of Pensacola, FL, Christopher Ehrmann of Dallas, TX, Ryan Day of Apple Valley, MN, Jeremy Day of Willernie, MN and Joel Day of Oregon, WI; two great- grandchildren: Joshua Ehrmann and Caleb Day; two sisters: Mary Jane Duffee of Dallas, TX and Joan (Derry) Wagner of West Bend, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband: Paul Hirsbrunner, an infant son David and a son-in-law: Ted Day.

Pat was always a political person and was a delegate to the Democratic State Convention in Austin, TX, when Governor Ann Richards was in office. Over the years, she also did volunteer work for the Red Cross, battered women’s shelters, food pantries, Planned Parenthood and Spohn Hospital. Pat was a member of the Unitarian Church for many years.

A memorial service remembering Pat’s life will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Park Place in Darlington, WI.
