Tim Kurth of Darlington, WI
Tim Kurth, age 60, of Darlington, WI, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 18, 1951, in Dodgeville, WI, the son of Darwin and Kathryn (Thompson) Kurth. Tim graduated from Darlington High School in 1969. He lived in Darlington his entire life. Tim was united in marriage to Mary Leahy on September 13, 1980, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Seymour Township in Lafayette County. He worked at Donohoe’s Mobil Station in Darlington until purchasing the station in 1982. Tim owned and operated Kurth’s Mobil until 1989. In 1990, he began working at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville as a custodian.

Tim is survived by his wife: Mary at home; two sons: Derek Kurth and Matthew Kurth both of Darlington; five brothers: C. Joseph “Joe” Kurth of Darlington, John “Jack” (Cindy) Kurth of Monroe, WI, Darwin G. (Debra) Kurth of Hazel Green, WI, Leroy (Brenda) Kurth of Madison, WI, and David P. Kurth of Fennimore, WI; three sisters: Mary Frances Kurth and Carol (Edward) Stevenson both of Madison, and Sabra (David McNeely) Kurth of Havre de Grace, MD; one brother-in-law: Allen (Jean) King of Shullsburg, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: James Peter Kurth in March of 1970; and one sister: Kathryn Rose King in 1999.

Tim was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington and a past member of the Knights of Columbus and Darlington Golf and Country Club. Tim enjoyed working on cars, hunting, golfing, and being a good neighbor and a good friend.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 104 East Harriet Street in Darlington with Rev. Randy Budnar officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Darlington is serving the family. Harold A. Huntington of Darlington, WI
Harold A. Huntington, age 86, of rural Darlington, WI, passed away at his home on Monday, January 23, 2012, surrounded by his family following a five year battle with lung cancer. He was born July 14, 1925, in Darlington, the son of Perle and Thelma Huntington. Harold lived and farmed in Seymour and Darlington Townships all of his life, graduating from Darlington High School in 1943. He was united in marriage to Diane Marty on September 17, 1949, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington, celebrating 62 years of marriage.

Harold is survived by his wife: Diane at home; four children: Randy (Judy) Huntington of rural Darlington, Cindy (Paul) Pluemer of Platteville, WI, Jayne (John) Doerfer of Verona, WI, and Betsy (Ed) Wiegel of Darlington; nine grandchildren: Lisa (Jimmy Reilly) Huntington, Laura (Tony Castle) Huntington, Tate Huntington, Adam (Christina Stone) Stanley, Aaron (Erica Reuter) Stanley, Jeff Wiegel, Janelle (Josh) Albrecht, Barry (Kristy) Doerfer, and Sondra (Kevin German) Doerfer; two great-grandchildren: Karly Stanley and David Castle; several sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Ralph Huntington; and one sister-in-law: Annie Huntington.

Harold was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and served on its church council. He also served three terms as a supervisor on the Darlington Township Board and was a 4-H Leader. Harold was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #171 of Darlington for 50 years, FSA Board, and Pecatonica Valley Antique Club. He was a square dance caller for many years for Pistols and Petticoats Square Dance Club in Platteville and for many other dances in Southwest Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Harold enjoyed restoring antique tractors, dancing, music, traveling, and gathering family history.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 339 East Louisa Street in Darlington with Rev. Dr. Connie Peake officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 508 Main Street in Darlington and also on Thursday, January 26, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Gerald W. "Jerry" McDonald of Darlington, WI
Gerald “Jerry” William McDonald was born September 11, 1939, in Darlington, Wisconsin, the son of William and Hazel McDonald. He passed away January 17, 2012, at the age of 72, following heart surgery at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, Florida. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending the winters at The Villages in Florida.

Jerry graduated from Darlington High School in 1957. On April 23, 1961, he married Mary Jane Black. Their union was blessed with three children, a son: Barry and two daughters: Marcy and Emily. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 23, 2011.

Jerry began his career as a bag boy for A & P in Darlington and worked his way through the ranks at Dick's Supermarkets, Gateway Foods, and the Scrivner Company. He retired as president of Fleming Foods in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin in 1996. He was recognized in the 1971 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America. Over his lifetime, he sat on several boards of directors: Wisconsin Grocer's Association, Minnesota Grocer's Association, the Family Center for Abused Women and Children in LaCrosse, and the Darlington Industrial Committee. He was also past president of the Darlington Country Club and Darlington Promotion Club, past member of the Darlington Fire Department and Asbury United Methodist Church in LaCrosse. He was a member of the Darlington United Methodist Church and took great joy in delivering Meals on Wheels to the residents of his hometown.

Survivors include his wife: Mary of Darlington; children: Barry (Cindy) McDonald of Bangor, Wisconsin, Marcy (Joe) Hurst of Knoxville, Tennessee and Emily (Scott) Rand of Arlington, Texas; 11 grandchildren: Wyatt, Samantha and Dustin McDonald, Mike (Valerie) Young, Lexie and Lane Hurst, Alec “Mac” Happel, and Max, Macy, Lily and Chloe Rand; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Russell Wilson, Karl Gmur, Don and Jean Parquet, Ronald and Patricia Black, Jimmy and JoAnne Crotty, and Shirley McConnell; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters: Donna Wilson, Marcia (Dean) Hanson and Sheila Gmur; brother-in-law: Bill McConnell; sister-in-law: Betty Binau; and a special nephew: Kevin Crotty.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 23, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Darlington United Methodist Church, 546 Main Street (Park Place) in Darlington with Rev. Larry Hakes officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Sunday, January 22, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church.
